Baby Basics & Early Intervention Class Information
Thank you for enquiring about Nics Baby Consultancy’s Baby Basics & Early Intervention Classes.
What to do in case of an emergency at home?
Are you prepared and well-informed?
How about grandparents, carers, or nannies?
An unresponsive baby, choking, febrile convulsions, and head injuries to name a few, is only a reality in the everyday life of young infants and children.
I feel strongly about enabling carers of young babies to be able to manage an emergency or problem at home as the critical initial responses can help to have a positive/better outcome for the infant/child by the time they arrive at the hospital should that be needed.
Nics Baby Consultancy offers an Early Intervention class aimed at new parents, parents-to-be, and all carers of young babies. It is important to empower parents/carers so that they feel confident about taking care of their baby.
The class is presented in 2 parts by a registered RCSA instructor and Paediatric Sister.
Part 1: BABY BASICS, developed by the Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa, is a one-hour orientation program. It has been designed to equip parents and carers on handling CPR and choking emergencies specifically focused on INFANTS and NEWBORN BABIES.
The program structure allows participants to practice the skills with an instructor. The BABY BASICS material includes a take-home USB demonstrating the skills, an A4 laminated poster, and an A6 laminated key card which can be attached to the nappy bag.
Part 2: BABY MANAGEMENT at home, is basic information regarding the management of fever, vomiting, diarrhoea (signs of dehydration), minor head injuries, and burns at home. Allergic reactions at home especially when you start solids, water safety, and general baby safety tips in and around the house. The session will focus on practical tips at home and how to summon help.
Classes are booked by appointment only. Please note this is an information session to inform and help you deal with emergencies at home, how to summon help, and when you should go to the hospital. This does not replace common sense and healthcare advice from your doctor.
A certificate of attendance will be provided to all attendees.
